How to Make Stamped Backgrounds For Cards + LIVE Video!

Do you like stamping backgrounds? Today I have 4 techniques to share!

Technique #1
Simply stamp the background as intended. This card uses the beautiful Plaid Background stamped in a very pale ink to create a subtle look.

But don’t forget that you can still change things up…. how about a little tone on tone instead?

Technique #2
Build a Background. There are many stamps like this Painted Stripes set that allow you to easily build any background to suit your project.

And to step it up a notch, I masked the Mondo Sakura into the background.

Technique #3
Partial Background Stamping. Here I used the Rustic Linen Background Stamp and a couple of fun bright colours to make a VERY quick and easy background.

This technique also works well with sentiment background stamps. For this design I added a fun Cake image.

Technique #4
Emboss Resist. You can change up the look of a design completely by blending different colours over top. I kept my colours bright and fun which worked perfectly with this sweet Poised Flamingo.

You can coordinate the colours of blended ink or even the embossing powder to suit your project.

There are SOOO many different ways to stamp a background. This is really just the tip of the iceberg lol.

I hope that you enjoyed these 4 techniques and are inspired to create some stamped backgrounds. I’d also love it if you’d tag me so that I can see what you create! Big hugs,

  1. Hola, Therese! When I get your blog posts, I can’t wait to see what awesomeness you are going to show/teach us. So awesome! You always blow my mind, girlfriend. 💜 I watched a documentary about the use of critter cams to monitor a few animals in Australia and I thought of you. They showed the poor kangaroos that are forced to live on the beach side, the koalas, and, my biggest nightmare, the gigantic bats (flying foxes). When I used to run every evening, it was like the bats were waiting for me. They were a good motivation to run faster, but if I saw those gigantic bats you guys have, I would probably pee-pee all over myself and never leave my house. 😂😂😂

      1. Great live as always! Must try some of those techniques – I know I have some unloved background stamps which sounded like great ideas when I purchased them 😉

  2. Brilliant cards Therese, really love the flamingo and the big mondo flower I think you called it, black and white flower with stripes background. Love that idea.

  3. So pretty cards, Therese! Super ideas, too, I should say! I watched the live and I saw the first finished card, but the second, third an fourth,…..oh my, such a gorgeous cards, so pretty colors together, simply perfffffect! Take care! Hugs from Slovenia.

    1. Yippee! I saw you there Natasa, it is so nice that you could join me, I know it was late for you. It was such a fun day for me to make the backgrounds and then make them into cards, I am very happy that you like them!

  4. Well done, my friend! I just love the simplicity of your finishing touches – you’ve really allowed those backgrounds to shine beautifully!
It was such a fun hour!

  5. These cards are absolutely gorgeous Therese. I’m very pleased that it was “Backgrounds” that won, that was my choice. Sadly, my hubby dragged me out to dinner last night and I missed your LIVE😭😭 😭. Thankfully I can go and watch the video now.☺️

    1. hahaha I am just picturing you being ‘dragged out’ to dinner, didn’t he understand lol. But yes, I am happy too that the replay is there to watch, that way I can also get to read the comments and see all the ones I missed while I was creating. ps hope you enjoyed your dinner!

  6. Thanks for sharing your ideas Therese, very inspirational. Now to go through my stamps and see what I can come up with lol

  7. The flowered heart on gingham is adorable! If you can remind me which stamp set was used for the inside of the heart, that would be great. I love the bright colors and layers!

    1. Hi June, I am away at the moment and don’t have access to the class with the stamp details. But from memory I literally just went through my stamps and picked out some cute little silhouette flowers and layers that worked well together. Along with some nice bright colours. You could use anything really. Sorry I’m not able to help any further at present. If you are desperate for the specific sets you can email me through my blog and I can look them up when I get home. Hope you are having a wonderful and crafty week! Hugs Tx

      1. NO worries! I just need ideas, and your videos are terrific resources for me. I love the bright colors. I think Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner did videos recently on using small images to fill in a shape. Thank you!
