Not sure about investing in Hot Foil just yet? Today’s cards focus on getting the ‘Hot Foil’ look without the heat!

These were inspired by this Hot Foil Card featured in this post HERE, in which I share 8 Quick Tips for Hot Foiling. BUT, as you know things don’t always go to plan in a live video but we do get there in the end lol.

This video was created ‘By Request’. To create a card that looks similar to Hot Foiling without using Hot Foil! I had so many ideas….. but settled on 2 versions of the same card design.
IDEA #1 Metallic Cardstock & Heat Embossing
One of the easiest ways to add a foil ‘look’ is to use metallic or foiled cardstock. For this card I used the beautiful Brushed Rose card from Altenew.
I die cut and inlay the Candy Cane Stripe Cover Die to create a flat feel to the front of the card.
Another simple way to add a faux foil look is to heat emboss metallic embossing powders such as this Golden Peach one from Altenew. It’s almost a perfect match for the card!
IDEA #2 Toner Foil & Double Sided Tape
My second faux idea is to use varying sizes of double sided tape to create the stripes on the card front. Then it was very easy to burnish the Hot Pink Toner Foil onto the adhesive using my finger.
PRO TIP: You can also burnish the foil by rolling it through your die cutting machine to add even pressure.
I was thinking about how to create a ‘flat’ foiled sentiment and decided that a negative die cut with the foil showing through from behind would be a fun way to do this.
And the Essential Sentiment Strips were perfect. You could also adapt this to many of your word die sentiments by using the negative portion and cut them into a strip and place the foiled section behind such as I did.
AND as promised here is my crafty space following this LIVE session, no wonder I can’t find anything lol.

hahaha it’s all empty now… I have this weird thing when I can’t think clearly about making a card in a mess lol.

if you were to take your “issues” and multiply times 100 you would see how my crafting goes! you giggle, but I would have had to mute my video due to my colorful language. my husband is always yelling from the other room “is everything okay in there?”.
your work space is NOT messy– I cannot even walk through my area without stepping on errant dies, cutting plates, ink cubes, sequins and tape! quite the disaster area :O
I love watching your live videos because I can experience all your “mishaps” and decision making thoughts in “real time”. I think I like your striped double sided tape technique for faux hot foiling the best, although, metallic card stock is always a great option.
btw– I dream of a “messy” work space like yours! I cannot even walk through my crafting area without stepping on sequins, tape, dies, cutting plates, pokey tools or stamps!
