Let’s PLAY with Outlines! Celebrating the July Altenew Blog Hop + Giveaway!

Do you have to keep ‘inside the lines’? I know this struggle is real for us, but I have a challenge for you…

But first, I wanted to let you know that this post contains a ton of affiliate links (which means that if you choose to click on my links and buy something nice then I receive a small commission at no extra cost to you – this is a great way to support my blog and the shops that I create for 🥰). This post is also part of a Hop celebrating a new release from Altenew and you can find all of the hop details in the link list below!

#OUTLINES

Do you love playing with outlines to create new and different looks? I have 2 techniques to share with you today. Would you like to see the cards I made?

Altenew - BAG Sulfur Cosmos - Inked Poppies - Bold Sentiments (card) (1)

Technique #1 – Offset

For a funky new look have you ever ‘offset’ the outline stamp? This is a fun way to give a whole new modern look to a design. This Sulfur Cosmos was perfect for this technique because of the large blooms and the style of the stamp.

I also decided to leave some of the leaves as line art to embrace the ‘artsy’ look.

PRO TIP: I used the stencils to create the flowers BEFORE adding the outline stamped image. I found it less distracting as I would have tried to keep lining it up with the image up lol.

Technique #2 – BetterPress Line Art

The BetterPress is basically created for this technique… it gives the ultimate ‘fine line’ results, with the added bonus of a ‘letterpress’ style impression when used with the Cotton Card Panels (or even some watercolour papers).

So, why not step it up and add a ‘multi-colour’ imPRESSion! These Altenew inks work like a dream with this system and I literally used the whole Tea Party colour family on this beautiful Press ‘n’ Foil Plate, but of course you can try any inks that have.

Altenew - Inked Poppies - Bold Sentiments (card) (2)

I wanted the flowers to be the star of the show, so I kept the sentiment clean and simple and added a few sweet Black Onyx Gem Sparkles to decorate.

  1. Two great techniques. My favorite is the offset technique. I will give it a try and thank you for the instructions. Pretty cards!!

  2. Love both cards and the different techniques you used. I’ve actually never offset a stamp outline from the coloring but it does look really cool!

  3. I always learn something new from your blog and videos, Therese! The offset stamping technique is one I definitely want to try! Beautiful cards!

  4. WOW! What gorgeous cards! I love the ombre look using the press plates and the off set on the other card looks perfect . And the colors are just beautiful. (Got to try the off set method now)

  5. Your techniques are always great, and I’ve always learned so much from your expertise. This release is outstanding and I’d love to have all of it, but my favorite is Fluttering By.

  6. I love the offset card. It really does create a whole different feel for the card. That press plate card though? FIRE! WOW! I’m really going to have to have that plate!

  7. I am definitely blown away with your cards. I especially liked the tip about coloring first and then adding the ourline. I was thinking that I just had to get these stamps and stencils and then realized I have them. I am so inspired and excited about using this set now. Thank you so very much

  8. Beautiful cards–I love that offset technique, it’s so pretty. I’ve not gotten into the Better press technique, don’t have a compatible die cut machine.

  9. Hi Therese. I love these colors. Those are two techniques I have never tried. The offset card is nice modern look. I like the idea of stenciling first and then stamping the dark outline, because I would definitely want to push it into place:-) You always come up with the most unique ideas and your cards are beautiful.

  10. Both cards are absolutely beautiful! The press plate foil card, combined with the different shades of red is Stunning! I love how you used the stencil before stamping the outline, very creative! I am going to try that technique! Thank you for sharing!

  11. Amazing colorful cards. I love that you shared your techniques with us. I never color first and then stamp on top but want to give a try because it seems so much smarter to do it that way! I love how you kept it in one color scheme. Beautiful cards!
