Do you add ‘sub sentiments’ to your cards? This is a great way to add something extra to a design as well as personalise a sentiment!
But first, this post is part of a Hop celebrating a new release from Altenew so you should have arrived here from the ALTENEW Blog.
Card #1 – Sweet Friend
The sentiments and the beautiful flower from the Delicate Garden Craft Your Life Project Kit inspired me today. I love the strong bold lettering and the perfectly coordinating sub sentiments. Adding a sub sentiment really makes this card special, and heat embossing it onto Jet Black cardstock really made it pop.

I decided to create a negative space to recess the beautiful bloom.

And did you notice that I stamped the main sentiment onto the flower and onto the border panel too!

Card #2 – Keeping in Centred
Next, I thought it would be nice to surround the sentiment with flowers. These Dancing Poppies stamp and die cut in one pass, which makes it very easy to make multiples quickly.

I coloured them with a wash of Artists’ Gouache and sat them on a panel of Pale Gray Cardstock.

This time I stamped the main sentiment directly onto the card front and popped up the heat embossed sub sentiment. What an easy way to add a special greeting to a simple ‘hello’ card.

Great recessed card! Do you re-stamp after the gouache wash?
Yes, I did stamp after the ‘gouache wash’, but you could also add in details with a black marker if you prefer. Thank you Christine!
Beautiful cards Therese. I especially like how you made a window for the image from the outline die. What a brilliant idea. Only from you of course â¤ï¸
Love the way you inset that gorgeous floral and then stamped the sentiment and subsentiment. Beautiful!
What wonderful cards. I love the recessed look of card one, I thought it was my fav then I say card 2 now they are both my favorite. Love the dimension in card 2 lots to look at
The first card really makes me want to try this recessed negative space technique.
Me? add a subsentiment? Yes, but never as perfectly as these, Therese! So pretty! LOve the sub-set, recessed positioning of that first bouquet!
=]
That recessed card is so pretty. I only wish I could stamp directly on a page. I’m still learning! I am bound and determined to get it right!ðŸ˜
Gorgeous cards and techniques!
That recessed card is a genius idea! Filing that away for future use for sure
Your cards are reall nice.
As always, 2 lovely cards Therese!
Beautiful cards, Therese! The recessed design on your first card is marvelous!
I’m always in awe of your beautiful projects and these are no exception. I think Altenew’s Craft Your Life projects kits are an amazing bargain for all the wonderful things you get, and this Delicate Garden set may be my favorite yet!
I love this recessed look. I must try it.
I love the recessed detail on card one. I am really inspired by the use of diecuts to make the background. Beautiful work as always!
I LOVE the designs! Gorgeous flowers!
Beautiful cards!! My favorite is the first with the image set back into the card; it’s a fun twist on layering! I rarely use sub sentiments, mostly because I don’t feel like I have the right “large” sentiments to use with them.
Lovely card…especially like the recessed design you used!!! TFS Therese!
Love both your cards- clever use of negative space and stamping on your first card! I adore the poppies stamp so both cards are winners.
Beautiful cards. Great techniques.
What a beautiful way to make quick cards!
Stunning as usual! I like how the sub sentiments just pop!
I love how you die cut the foreground. I have never done that. COOL
Beautiful cards. I especially love the Craft Your Life flower card!!! Sensational! Fantastic with the cut out!!!
Beautiful cards! Love the dancing poppies.
I don’t add sub-sentiments ordinarily.
Probably because I often don’t put any
sentiment on the front of my cards.
Your flowers are beautiful. thanks
for sharing.
I really like the inlaid die-cut card. Beautiful. Thank you.
Gorgeous!
Love the recessed card & the poppies are so pretty!
I love your cards!!!
I love the inlay design of your first card.
I love your first card and how the flower is recessed. Gorgeous!

You’re awesome, Therese! Your cards are always stunningly beautiful!

Amazing how you recessed the bloom and pulled the other blooms forward. These are gorgeous and what a fun idea
The recessing makes this card so special. Always lovely, Therese
Such great and colorful cards.
Lovely cards Therese. Love the colourful poppies on the grey cardstock.
Gorgeous cards…rose card is my favorite…
I love both cards! Gorgeous flowers and color combos!
Gorgeous cards! I love the play of stamping and die-cutting!
I really love both cards, Therese! The recessed card is very different, and I will definitely be giving it a go. Also, the die cuts on top are a great way to make a statement… adding that to my JUST DO IT list, too! 💜💜💜
I love your negative space card! I’m making more like this now.
These are beautiful!
No way to pick a favorite here. Both cards are stunning Miss Therese!
A gorgeous card and so bright and colorful!
Both cards are lovely. I especially like the first one and how the sentiment is stamped on both the card front and floral image.
Hi Therese, your 2 cards are beautiful. The first one is so cool. I have never tried one like this. The way you stamped the sentiment “Thank You†across both levels is so cool. I’ll have to try it.
I love the dimension in both cards, especially the first one. Steps up the interest!
Both of these cards are so beautiful and inspiring! Now I need to get some gouache!
Lovely cards–and yes, I do add sub sentiments sometimes. Depends on the card and the occasion. Thanks for the inspiration.
Delightful florals and gorgeous card!
Pretty cards!! I especially like the first one.
