I pre-ordered the new foiling machine ‘Your Best Mate’ as soon as I saw the email come through… so I’ve been chomping at the bit waiting for it to arrive. And, of course it arrived while I was overseas…. I couldn’t come back early, so decided to wait 2 more days and share the unboxing with you!

#TONERFOILING

Toner Reactive Foil is affordable, versatile and such a fun way to add elegance to a project! You can actually use Toner Foil without a foiling machine, check out my video HERE. But to take it a step further, you can definitely do so much more when you use a machine such as ‘Your Best Mate’.

#MYTIPS

• Protect your work surface, foiling machines can get hot. I sit mine on a glass mat (but you can also use a wooden chopping board)
• Toner Reactive Foil needs something to ‘stick to’, and a great place to start is ‘Foil Art’. Typically this is cardstock with a pattern, sentiment or images printed in toner ink, which will react to the foil when added with heat and pressure (ie. toner foiling machine).
• You can also use Glues or products such as Transfer Gel (like I did through the stencil)
• Ensure your work area is free of dust, hair and fur… I have 2 cats 😉.
  TOP TIP: Use a soft clean brush to dust the foil and cardstock before foiling.
• Use a carrier sheet to support and protect the foil and cardstock as you pass it through the machine (or use a piece of parchment or copy paper). Feed the carrier sheet in ‘folded edge’ first.
• BEST SETTINGS: Setting 2 – Foil Art | Setting 3 – Toner Sheets
• Allow the cardstock to cool before removing the foil (if you are using the Premium Toner Sheets – allow them to ‘completely’ cool and remove the foil very quickly!).
• Test cardstocks if you are not sure. The quality of toner ink and paper can make a difference. For example the Design Paper that I used in the video is made from different cardstock, so the results may differ.
• Don’t waste that leftover foil. Use the reverse images from foiling on Toner Sheets, my favourite is the White, but there are many solid colours and patterns to choose from.
• Cover the entire Toner Sheet with foil as it will adhere to the carrier sheets. Don’t worry, it will still work just the same, but you can also clean the carrier sheet with 100% acetone (nail polish remover without any additives) and it will look as good as new.
  PRO TIP: Did you know that you can use the leftover Hot Foil sheets on Toner Sheets in the same way?
• Don’t be afraid to try something new, because it may not work… but it just might! Just get it out and play!
